Q&A with Mr. Wash following the screening
In 1997, Mr. Wash was given a mandatory life sentence for a non-violent drug offense, and in 2016 was set free by President Barack Obama.
While in prison, Mr. Wash taught himself how to paint, crafting thousands of hyper-realistic artworks that told the stories he saw around him. Mr. Wash follows his return home to his family in Compton, CA, making the case for creativity as an optimistic force against the backdrop of America's broken criminal justice system.
